Guava
Psidium guajava · Myrtaceae
How it looks
The Guava is an evergreen tree with glossy oval, dark-green leaves set opposite each other. White five-petaled flowers bloom on the branches, and round or pear-shaped yellow and pink fruits develop. The leaves and fruit have a strong tropical-fruit scent; height 10-26 ft (3-8 m).
No toxicity data available
Guava is not listed in the ASPCA's toxic plants list for cats, and NC State Extension has no toxicity data for it either. With no confirmed evidence either way, we cannot call it safe — exercise caution if your cat has access to it.
Guide for parents
Guava has no official toxicity data, so it is hard to say for certain whether it is safe.
Make a habit of picking up fallen leaves the same day. If your cat likes to dig in or eat potting soil, fertilizer ingredients can upset their stomach — covering the soil with pebbles works well. If it comes home as a cut stem, florists often treat it with preservatives, so place the vase where your cat cannot drink the water.
